Spring Break in New York!

I went to New York again!
I know, I know... I've done so many food tours in the big apple at this point that you're probably wondering if this post is gonna be Snoozeville. But worry not! I ate some crazy awesome food that you get to feast your eyes on right....................................NOW!

See?! It's gonna be great!

My first night in New York was pretty exciting. We all went to see the Floridian band, Hundred Waters, perform at Glasslands Gallery. After that, we participated in a soul dance competition at Brooklyn Bowl. Needless to say, we were ready for a hearty breakfast the next morning. Thank goodness for Champs...

 Tofu Benedict

'Everything But The Kitchen Sink' Salad

'The Sag' (tofu, soysage, cheeze, and hollandaise)

Tofu Scramble and Soysage

....And the Monte Christo (ham and cheeze sandwiched between French toast.... WHAT???)

After a visit to the Museum of Natural History, and a short walk through Central Park, we sat down for one of the best meals ever at Candle 79. This was my first experience at the infamous vegan restaurant and lemme just say, it definitely lives up to the hype. We started the meal with a quinoa salad amuse bouche...

As for the entrees- I've heard about the seitan picatta enough times that I already knew that's what I wanted to order. It was seriously excellent. I 100% recommend ordering it. In fact, I think if I ever went back I would probably order the same thing. But really, it's hard to beat a meal of seitan cutlets served with creamed spinach, a grilled potato cake, oyster mushrooms, and lemon caper sauce. Also, who knew that caper berries were so delicious!?
You can actually find the recipe (and a more appetizing picture)... here!

The pasta of the day served with spring vegetables...

As for the dessert, we tried the Strawberry Rhubarb Crumble, Carrot Cake, and infamous Peanut Butter Bliss

Okay... So originally Tess and I had planned on visiting Montauk during my trip. And the whole reason we even wanted to visit Montauk is because it's where Joel and Clementine met in one of our favorite movies, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Unfortunately, the train times didn't work for us, so we decided to super dork out and have an Eternal Sunshine-themed day instead. Which for some reason I am sharing with you.

We projected the movie...

Dressed up like the characters...

Drank our version of the drink Kate Winslet makes in the movie, "Blue Ruins" (our budgeted version was blue Gatorade and vodka. I do not recommend this).

Remember how Clementine makes weird potato people?

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeellllllllllllllll....

As nerdy as it was, it was easily my favorite day of the trip/year. I highly recommend doing something similar with your favorite movie.

We also had a few quick bites around the city...

Like these amazing seitan tacos from Papacito's in Greenpoint

Or (once again) fantastic dim sum from Vegetarian Dim Sum House in Chinatown

We had a great breakfast at Dun Well Doughnuts (pb & j, chocolate sprinkle, cinnamon, raspberry, peach, toasted coconut).

Okay... now we've come to my favorite meal of the trip.

Before my trip, PETA came out with a list of the 10 best vegan sushi restaurants. I decided to try out #9, Franchia Vegan Cafe, and OH MY GO0DN3ssJDIJSKLPWJDIPJD. Best is right.

We had the leek pancakes

Delicious Salads

Sushi Combo Platter (Crispy Tofu Skin Roll, California Roll, & Spicy Chik'n Roll)

Mochi candies

And a green tea ice cream float

Annnnndddd that concludes my massive spring break food tour. Despite this being my third NY visit, there's still plenty of places I haven't tried. If you guys have any suggestions for next time, lemme know!
